Best Place To Work in UK

Postby sheryl17 » Mon Apr 19, 2010 6:42 am

Where is the best place to gain temporary casual work in the UK for a backpacker? I would like to stay in London but it is no doubt one of the more expensive places to live. Also, is it realistic to look for a temporary job that i will only be able to do for 3 months?

Anyone got any experiences with working and travelling in europe and uk?

thanks

Hello friends

The fast-food restaurant beat off strong competition from other individual award winners including Malmaison Hotel du Vin, Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Ego Restaurants to take the overall prize.
McDonald’s, who received the award from Caterer editor Mark Lewis and Steve Di Piazza, managing director at sponsor The People Tree, takes the mantle from last year’s joint overall winners, La Tasca and Betty’s and Taylors Harrogate.
David Fairhurst, vice-president (people) at McDonald’s, said: "I am thrilled that McDonald's has been recognised in this way, because when you think about what makes a really great workplace it boils down to just three things.“First and foremost it's people. Secondly it's a company that values and respects its people. And finally it's time. Being one of the best places to work in any sector doesn't happen overnight. For over 30 years in the UK, McDonald's has employed great people and invested in those people.”

Thanks

Things like bar work, call centers, charity fund raising etc, are always taking on people and there are lots of travellers working in these jobs because they are usually short term and weekly paid.

London is v expensive to live in, and if you are doing a temp job, you are not realistically going to be earning enough to be super comfortable. However, I think its really worth it as London is an amazing city, that i've lived in 13 years and still havent seen everything.

If you are into hotel management, then bartending is an ideal choice. Otherwise, you can work in a call center or a general store.

It's not an original suggestion, but at your age London would be your best bet. Despite the cost of living being very high, there are more opportunities there.

With your background, you would stand a reasonable chance of finding call centre or hotel employment.

Hi
Danone, Microsoft and Diageo are among the best companies to work for in Britain, according to new research, with management consultancy Baringa Partners scooping the top award.
In survey of workplace satisfaction among employees, the Great Place to Work Institute also placed big British names like insurer Admiral, Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, British Gas and The Co-operative Group among the top 50 companies to work for.

Thanks

Hello
Britain has dropped to 25th place on a list of the best places in the world to live - behind countries such as the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Uruguay.

While France tops the poll for the fifth year running, the UK's climate, crime rate, cost of living, congested roads and overcrowded cities have pushed it even further down from last year's ranking at 20.

The Quality of Life Index, published by International Living magazine for the 30th year, says the French live life to the full, while Britons are over-worked.
Thanks
