HTML helps to display the files at the different platforms, whereas XML is used to increase and retain the flexibility of the HTML by reducing its complexity.

HTML is necessary words used to present exact files whereas XHTML is in essence second-hand to protect the elasticity of HTML and falling its simplicity.

Both are scripting language. XHTML is a new version of HTML. I think generally speaking HTML is SGML and XHTML is expressed in XML. Because of that, creating XHTML is connected with more restrictions than HTML.
